Date Night

Christina and I decided to have one last date night, without having to get a babysitter. We went to Boston's for dinner. After dinner we went to Dave & Buster's where we had a lot of fun playing games. The night concluded with a trip to Dairy Queen.

Christina playing her favorite "token drop" game:

Playing Skee-Ball:
(you'll notice Christina didn't capture my score in the picture, but I beat her)

Deal or No Deal:
(Christina beat me 30 tickets to 12 tickets)

Football:
(If Quarterbacks in the NFL only had to complete passes from 6 feet away with no defenders in their face - I would be a millionaire right now!)

Big Winner:
(Normally when we go to Dave & Buster's we give our tickets away to a little kid. But, now that we have our own "little kid" we decided to use some of them. We got Austin a really cute stuffed animal - Detroit Tigers puppy).

We also used the "Gene Machine" to see what Austin will look like:

38 Weeks

Last Tuesday marked the 38th week of Christina's pregnancy. She has done AWESOME throughout this pregnancy. I know why God makes the women carry the child - because I couldn't do it for a week, let alone, 40 weeks!

As many of you know, we go in on the evening of Tuesday, July 1st. The morning of July 2nd they will start the pitocin induction (unless she goes before that!) So, we have less than 5 days as a family of 2.

Here's a picture of Christina at 38 weeks:

Baby Shower

We just realized we never posted about our baby shower. So, here it is.

On June 7th Christina's mom threw a baby shower for us. It was at the Best Western - ConCorde Inn. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun!

Thanks to all of those that came. Here are some pictures (and one video) from the shower:

No Hospital

Well I had another doctor's appointment today and luckily they did not send me to the hospital. I had an appointment on Monday and like all the other ones they shipped me off to the hospital for my blood pressure. Monday I was so over being there that I even sent John back to work and stayed there most of the day by myself, watching my blood pressure measure perfect. My dad did come hang out with me for awhile and then drove me home. Because of all the time off of work with hospitals and funerals, I came home, changed and went off to work.

Trip to the Hospital #3 - June 23, 2008

Now every time we go to the doctors its always in the back of our minds and almost expected now that we are going to the hospital. We were very happy today that we did not have to make that trip. We had an ultra sound because our doctor wanted to make sure that the baby was growing. We are happy to report that Austin Rick McMahon is weighing in at 7 lbs 5 oz. That made me so happy. I had a horrible fear that I would have to deliver a monster child.

My blood pressure was still high but I had forgotten to take my medicine in the morning and didn't take it until right before the appointment so I have go tomorrow afternoon to have it checked. Other then that we are still set for July 1st going in and having Austin on the 2nd.

Father's Day

So, my first (unofficial) Father's Day was great! Christina took me to "Strawberry Fields" for a nice breakfast. After church, it was on to lunch with my Dad. After eating too much pizza it was time for a nice nap. Then, we went out to dinner with Christina's parents.

Christina gave me my Father's Day present on Friday. Christina is (in her words) "a very bad present-giver." She called me on her way home from the store and asked if I would mind if she gave it to me early. I could tell she was really excited, so I said ok. So, once she got home she had me close my eyes so she could give it to me. It was a "Blackjack II" from at&t. For those of you not familiar, it is a "do-it-all cell phone" (similar to a blackberry). This phone has EVERYTHING (internet, email, mp3 player, camera, video camera, organizer, etc.) This is the perfect gift and essential for someone like me (an overly-obsessed, organized person).

Here are a few pictures I took with the phone...

Christina assured me that future presents will be less expensive. She said to expect many hand-drawn pictures from Austin - which is fine with me!

Hospital Visit #2

Well yesterday John and I almost had a baby. The morning began as any other. I had a doctor's appointment at 9:00am. John went off to work to make up hours that he lost last week when we spent the afternoon in the hospital for my foot. I was excited. I had thought that they would tell me that I had dilated even more since Tuesday. On Tuesday, I took the day off of work due to having no power for the 3rd day, and all morning I was having cramps and contractions.

I get to the doctor's - which my doctor was out of town - so I was seeing one of the other doctors in the office, and they tell me my blood pressure is high. I thought "of course it is, I was just running around packing my lunch and dinner for work, walked up 2 flights of stairs and down a long hall to the doctors office." I was tired and hot and caring around a 6 lbs + baby inside of me. So they take my blood pressure and it is high. The doctor comes in and says he is concerned because this can cause a problem starting at 36-40 weeks. He takes my blood pressure again and says its still high and he is sending me to Labor and Delivery. The doctor says the baby is fine to be delivered but they are concerned with me and do not want me to have seizers if my blood pressure gets too high. So, he tells me we mght have a baby today or we might just be monitored and released. Off to the hospital again!

I rush to call John who is about to leave for school. He just keeps asking if I am serious. I state that I am very serious and he needs to meet me at home so we can pack for the hospital which we have not even begun to do. Our house was still a disaster from the shower since we had lost power for so long.

On the way to the hospital, the ride was very tense. John was very nervous and I was concerned that we hadn't even bought our car seat yet and they would not let us take the baby home if we had him.

So we get to the hospital, and they put us in a room right away, which was very nice. It was a private room this time so we had plenty of room. They hook me up to everything. The baby is doing fine with his heartbeat and moving around. He isn't a fan of those monitors strapped to my belly and I dont know how he knows but he starts kicking them dead on when they are on me. My blood pressure is slightly high but the doctor on call says it's nothing that they would be concerned about or induce labor for. They draw blood and the wait begins.

After watching TV, taking naps, and having perfect blood pressure for over 3 hours we finally get the results of the blood work back. Everything is perfect and they are going to send me home. So at about 3:30pm we finally get to go home.

So maybe third time will be a charm and we will be able to bring our little Austin home with us. It did kick us into gear and made us realize we are slightly unprepared and need to get moving incase he decides join us soon.

I have an appointment again next Friday with my doctor and unless she sees the head, I wont be rushing to the hospital. The good thing about all of this is that we know the routine at the hospital and most likely wont be in such a panic the next time.

BLACKOUT 2008

So, we're on day #3 with no power. DTE reports there are now only 44,000 customers in MI without power. As the number keeps getting lower, I feel like one of the lucky few. Maybe I'll play the lotto today.

A BIG thanks to Dan & Katie for your hospitality and entertainment last night.

Christina is officially 9 months (36 weeks) pregnant today. We were so excited that we decided to take a family picture...

We Went to the Hospital!

We went to the hospital today! Ok....so it wasn't for the delivery. Christina's foot was pretty swollen. By pretty swollen I mean about 3x the normal size. So, she called the doctor this morning and she suggested we go to the hospital and have it checked out. During the 4 hours we were there they run some ultrasounds on her legs and they determined everything was fine.

Nonetheless, it was a nice trial run at the hospital. I think we're ready for the real thing now.
